Okay, I can’t say I’ll ever use any of these links — I’m a writer, not a mathematician — but Mathtools.net – Link Exchange for the Technical Computing Community looks like a great resource for scientists, mathematicians, students, teachers, researchers — anybody who uses math on a regular basis. There are links to books, discussion forums, tutorials, reference sites, universities — even jobs for mathematicians. Maybe there’s even a set of resources for math idiots like me — I’m going to check it out.

Finding Information on the Internet: Table of Contents. This is a useful site from UC Berkeley that gives some good basic information about how to research using Internet sources. The Internet can be overwhelming, but this site breaks it down into a manageable system. It doesn’t just tell you where to go to find information; it tells you how to find the most targeted information for your purposes. Good links here.

What do you love? is a new site from Google that looks pretty cool. You just type in a keyword and Google will produce a page of links to everything it can find on the topic, divided by categories like: blogs, videos, translations, discussion groups, 3D art, and lots more. It’s a quick and easy way to find information, and although some of what it finds will not be what you’re looking for, there’s bound to be something useful that will turn up. I like it!

When I wrote my e-newsletter about free Web research resources, I often profiled sites I found from The WWW Virtual Library. This is a renowned site that lists Web portals in many subjects. The portals are collections of links put together by experts in various fields, and they’re loaded with great research sites. Each portal has dozens, if not hundreds, of links to subjects like: Agriculture, Business, Computing, Education, Engineering, International Affairs, Law, Regional Studies, and more. You can drill down many levels in these portals, and you’ll be amazed at the information you can find. It’s a great resource for businesspeople, students, journalists, and researchers of all kinds.

For ten years I wrote an e-newsletter called Really Useful Sites for International Trade, and it was a popular resource for international businesspeople. At one time I had 100,000 subscribers. I found useful Web sites for international business research, and I profiled them. One of the ones I kept coming back to was International Business Resources | globalEDGE. This site was created by Michigan State University, and it’s full of good research sources. There are links to country profiles, tips on travel/living abroad, government resources, statistics, language tools, market studies, currency converters, and much more. The best part is, it’s all free. I highly recommend this site if you’re doing any kind of research on companies or countries in the international arena.

I love libraries, and the Internet has made it easier than ever to access information in the world’s libraries. The accumulated wealth of knowledge from libraries around the world is right there with the click of a mouse. I know that’s a mouthful for a title, but it’s a great WordPress site with annotated links that you’ll find very useful. You’ll find collections of books, documents, pictures, videos, historical material, academic papers — and that’s just scratching the surface of what you can find.
